Sri Lanka: Sinhalese Phrases

No matter how simple these words or phrases, when you say it in their own dialect even if your accent is not perfect, you can see how the local's eyes beam with light and gladness as you try to speak to them in their native tongue.

Here are few Sinhalese phrases I learned in my four day trip in Sri Lanka:

Yamu - Let's go
Stutti! - Thank you
Older brother - Ayiya
Older sister - Akka
Nehe - No
Ou - Yes
Hari - Okay
