Uniquely Singapore
Why Singapore is Singapore today? We did not wake up and find Singapore a bustling Asian country just like today... they too started from crap...
More than 60 years ago after the WWII, Singapore did struggle to live ... those were the days where electricity, gas and water are in serious demand... when they could not even provide clean drinking water for their people so they import it from neighboring countries... when population and food shortage was a persistent problem...
But where is Singapore now? You can hardly trace they have gone through all this turmoil... Well, I guess the following statements of the Singaporean youth which you can find posted in one of their many museum answers this:
