Watch Max Jeganathan of RZIM in an interactive question and answer and provide compelling argument why a self-sufficient person needs God.

Here's an excerpt of the video:

Question: I am fully self-sufficient. I am able to control my emotions, and determine my future. Why do I need God?

In reality, given time no one is fully self-sufficient and you cannot determine your own future but for the sake of argument he still gave three good reasons why you still need God.

1. Truth is indispensable
You still need God because He is real, because its true. The first and best reason to become a Christian is because He is true. You can perceive everything is okay and live in synthetic sufficiency but really everyone has internal brokenness, existential struggles and yearning for more. But God is real, history tells us Jesus died on the cross, rose again and offers you full life and joy.

2. Suffering is unavoidable
There's a lot of suffering happening around us because its ubiquitous. It affects every single human life in different degrees - death, illness, loss of job, anxiety, depression or physical difficulty. Jesus through the cross provides the most powerful, practical and intellectually coherent response to suffering. A God who comes down to the world, suffers for us so now we can hold His hand and conquer with us on our own suffering. All other worldwide has nothing like this, some worldview will tell you suffering is God's will, there's no obligation on him, you don't get to ask question and just take it. Other worldview will tell you, all your suffering was your fault because of something you did this life or previous life. Other worldview will tell you that suffering is an illusion and all you need to do is meditate yourself out of the desire then you won't suffer. While the atheistic worldview will tell you that your suffering is meaningless. And then you look at the Cross of Jesus Christ and what He offers.

3. Happiness is not enough
Happiness is a feeling. It is something that happens to you based on external events. You change those external events and the feeling will change. Yes we can make ourselves happy by doing meaningful thing like being in relationships, helping the unfortunate, raising kids, having good jobs but we can also make ourselves happy with a decent iced coffee on a hot day or a bowl of ice cream. On what basis then should we reduce our self for the pursuit of a feeling? Jesus offers us more than feelings but He offers joy. Happiness is something you feel but joy is something you are. People who are walking closely with Jesus, when bad things happen, their happiness level may vary but their joy holds strong because they are anchored to the truth that there is redemption in Christ.

Go to the person of Jesus Christ.
He is the truth.
He is the ultimate response to suffering.
He is the eternal source of joy.
