Movie: Heneral Luna
After avoiding watching Philippine movie in big screen for the past five years plus because I find it a waste of money and time, Heneral Luna brought me back to the dark alleys of local movie houses. Being able to catch the film in SM cinemas after move than 2 months since the release dates(September 9, 2015) is one of the best birthday gift I got when I went home last November. Plus I got to watch this with my folks who by the way haven't watch a movie longer than I did. I would say it runs in the family :)
Heneral Luna directed by Jerrold Tarog, produced by Artikulo Uno Productions is a historical biography film exhibiting the life of General Antonio Luna, probably among the most unappreciated heroes in the Philippine history. Started as Indie film and ended up one of the most sophisticated history film ever released in the Philippines.
John Arcilla was exceptional on bringing General Luna to life, not to mention the cast are not your typical lime-light celebrities but remarkable artists who embody their character.
The movie features Luna's valuable character -- his passion for the country, genius in military force and uncompromising pledge for the independence of Philippines during the American war, including his sharp character that eventually led to his assassination by the same people whom he is supposed to fight with. Luna's tragic death depicts what was wrong and what is still wrong in our country.
Henaral Luna not only reformed the quality of local Philippine movies, it also revolutionized the hearts of the Filipino viewers.

Quotable quotes:

Quotable quotes:
Heneral Luna: “Negosyo o kalayaan?
Heneral Luna: “At ‘yan
kanila? Wala ba tayong karapatang mabuhay nang malaya?" -
Joven: Natatakot ba kayong mamatay Heneral? Yung parang
halos nanganganib ang inyong buhay.
Heneral Luna: Sa gera? Hindi. Pero ang mamatay para sa
prinsipyo. Oo.
Heneral
Luna: "Marami ang
makabayan.
niyan."
General Elwell
Otis: “You killed the
only real general you have”
