70 Things that I am Thankful for Tatay
This will be the longest list of "Things that I am Thankful For" posts that I've made and posted on my blog. I initially doubted if I would be able to complete this list but it turned out there's so much more to be thankful for the life of my Tatay.
2. For your jokes.
3. For not complaining about how difficult our life was when we were kids.
4. For not complaining when you needed to stay home and be the house-husband while Nanay worked(for some time).
5. For working hard to provide for our basic needs.
6. For prioritizing our studies and making sure we finish school.
7. For taking care of Nanay.
8. For taking care of us your kids.
9. For taking care of your grandchildren.
10. For your loyalty to Nanay.
11. For loving Nanay and sticking with her until the end.
12. For your willingness to prepare and cook meals at home.
13. For being a low-maintenance father who seldom asks from your children.
14. For your servant heart.
15. For your tough exterior but softcore.
16. For all your pasalubong to us especially when we were kids.
17. For giving all your salary to Nanay, and just asking her for a daily allowance to work. This showed me how you truly trusted her with everything and how selfless you are.
18. For saving your money for our needs.
19. For trying your best to give us a better life. We didn't have the best life but seeing you try is enough for me.
20. For sacrificing to work overseas for your family.
21. For your laughter.
22. For your great appetite, even the simplest ulam would look so enjoyable to eat when we eat it with you.
23. For your simplicity and modest way of life.
24. For your detailed stories of the past.
25. For your strict upbringing to us.
26. For teaching us to play cards - pusoy dos and tong its.
27. For coming to church with us on Sundays.
28. For being part of our family devotion every Sunday for the past two years since pandemic.
29. For overcoming your fear of sharing/talking.
30. For becoming more open and expressive with your thoughts and emotions during our family devotion.
31. For your opening prayers when Nanay facilitates during our family devotion.
32. For supporting us in our decisions as grown-up adults.
33. For being the proudest father to us.
34. For giving us a safe place to go home.
35. For not arguing or fighting with Nanay. To be honest, growing up I don't have any memory of you and Nanay fighting at home.
36. For not giving up on life, especially when your agency scammed you to work overseas.
37. For helping Nanay with the laundry every single week.
38. For not demanding too much from us.
39. For being present when we were growing up.
40. For always prioritizing your family in every decision you make.
41. For your yearly Christmas gifts(usually💰💰💰) to your grandchildren.
42. For your humor and always trying to make things light.
43. For being a dependable father and provider.
44. For your humility.
45. For my favorite homecooked meals every time I'm in the Philippines.
46. For your resolute outlook to be well after you got a stroke.
47. For diligently taking your maintenance meds.
48. For not being irritable even though you have a few medical conditions.
49. For making sure there's always food on the table.
50. For being our handyman at home.
51. For being a domesticated father to us.
52. For accepting Jesus as your Saviour.
53. For stopping your vices of smoking more than 2 decades ago.
54. For all your small but special treats like merienda, ice cream, etc.
55. For cooking my favourite ginataang tulingan. It will remain my favorite but I don't think anyone can cook it the same way as yours.
56. For waking up in the morning to prepare our breakfast at home.
57. For improving on your temper.
58. For forgiving other people who hurt you.
59. For showing that you're doing fine, in spite of the pain after your operation, to prevent us from worrying.
60. For your composure.
61. For your generosity to other people.
62. For your good genes and the height haha.
63. For reading the Bible. It was very encouraging to see you read even though you always find excuses to look for your glasses.
64. For being appreciative of the things we give you.
65. For your tough love.
66. For fetching and sending me from/to the airport. All the time.
67. For being contented with your life, and making us feel that we are your life.
68. For the seventy years that the Lord has given us to share with you.
69. For making us believe that there is true love through your love for Nanay.
70. For watching over us, even though you are no longer here.
