Hong Kong: Dragon's Back Day Hike

Counting steps does not have to be boring and tough. It can be an adventure! That's exactly what we did when we included a leisure hike in our Hong Kong itinerary last December. Not only that you can explore different side of Hong Kong for free you also get to burn calories without even realizing it. With three nephews who have so much energy to spare, you can't go wrong with this kind of activity.

We started our day around 8am from our Airbnb place. Took the MTR to Shau Kei Wan Station and made an exit at A3. Then we transferred to Bus #9 towards Shek O and get off at the To Tei Wan bus stop.  The adventure starts here and beyond.

This is our crew - Gemson, Girlie, Ramiah, Marichu, Genesis, and Godwin. We initially planned for the shortest route from the starting point to Shek O Peak which is 284 meters high and then back to the starting point.

Aside from cloudy weather, we were treated with a spectacular view and green landscapes along the way. The trail was pretty much easy to follow and friendly to kids.  There is always something to get distracted with like overlooking view, some shelters for pictures, and elevated stairs which kid's treated as an obstacle course.

After reaching the peak which took us almost an hour of hike including all the distractions and photo op, the kids were pumped and wanted to walk further, so we decided to follow the trail and go all the way to Big Wave Bay Beach and hopefully find some restaurant for lunch. The next hours of walking consist of mountains, scenic ridge still with a hiking trail that is less popular than what we experience during the first leg. We bump into a few hikers who started on the other side of the trail. Upon reaching the Hong Kong trail Sec 8 junction we made a left turn to catch the bus to the city instead of heading to the beach. It was almost 12 noon at that time and the kids made a consensus decision that we have better options having lunch if we are back to the city. Overall the hike was a pleasant experience and highly recommended if you are looking for a close to nature type of adventure in Hong Kong.

What could befitting way to end this morning hike but with a sumptuous lunch back to the city. After alighting from our bus, without even looking we instantly found this famous fast food, Cafe de Coral which is also walking distance from our Air Bnb. What a treat for starving souls. One last picture and you can almost imagine what will happen next 😀
