OTWOL: Sampung Bagay na Naituro sa Akin ng Pag-ibig

This spoken word poetry performed by Rico in the finale week of the Philippine TV series "On The Wings Of Love" spike the "kilig" factor in the happiest ending of Clark and Leah's love story.

No doubt this was another hit by the spoken poet himself Juan Miguel Severo. Thank you Gege for sharing your heart with us.
We will sure miss you Clark and Leah!

Pangalawa, MAGTIIS.
Pang-siyam, MAGBABALIK SIYA SAYO.

Pandesal Recipe

Ingredients:
4 cups of top flour
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup of bread crumbs
5 tablespoons of melted butter
1 tablespoon of cooking oil
1 fresh egg
1 1/2 cup of fresh milk
1 sachet(11grams) of active dry yeast

Directions:
1.  Dissolve 1 sachet of active dry yeast in warm fresh milk. Wait for 10-15 minutes until the yeast sets in.
2. Combine all dry ingredients - flour, sugar, salt - and mix well.
3. Once yeast, milk mixture is ready, combine all remaining ingredients - melted butter, cooking oil, egg, yeast mixture - to the flour mixture.
4. Knead the dough until consistency is fine. You may use electric mixer with dough hook for faster kneading.
5. Apply oil in your hand, mold the dough to a rounded shape and place in a mixing bowl. Cover with damp cloth or plastic wrap and allow dough to rise for at least 45 minutes to 1 hour.
6. On a floured flat surface, take the dough(which by now doubled or tripled its size) portion it into four and roll each part to a cylindrical shape. Slice the dough diagonally to smaller pieces according to your preferred pandesal size.
7. Mold each piece to a rounded shape. You can also place your favourite filling like cheese,  chocolate, corned beef etc but plain pandesal is also a show stealer. Roll each piece in bread crumbs.
8. Prepare the baking tray with parchment paper and arranged the sliced dough in the tray, once all the sliced dough are placed on the tray, sprinkle more bread crumbs on each dough.
9. Cover the baking tray with plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise for another 10-15 minutes.

These babies are ready to pop in the oven.
10. At this point you can pre-heat the oven at 375 f / 190 c for 10 minutes.
11. Place the baking tray with dough pieces in the oven and bake for 15 minutes.
12. Finally serve and enjoy the freshly baked pandesal with or without coffee!

Bon appetit!
Pandesal party!

Credits to Beth and Kytin for sharing the recipe with us. Cheers to more pandesal making session!

Music: Stay

Not only because of "On The Wings Of Love" Philippine TV series and the love story of Leah and Clark, "Stay" originally sung by Carol Banawa, now with a cover version by Daryl Ong as part of OTWOL soundtrack brings the viewers to a whole new level of emotion every time it is played in the series. Every line of the song pierces through the heart plus the way Daryl sung it was genuinely soulful.

This is the latest LSS(last song syndrome) playing in my head this week, a song pleasant to the ears but painful to the heart. Thank you Daryl not only for adding depth to the OTWOL scenes but for reviving Original Pilipino Music(OPM).

Stay

I want you to stay never go away from me
Stay forever
But now, now that you're gone
All I can do is pray for you
To be here beside me again

*Why did you have to leave me
When you said that love will conquer all
Why did you have to leave me
When you said that dreaming
Was as good as reality

And now I must move on
Trying to forget all the memories
Of you near me
But I can't let go of your love
That has taught me to hold on

I want you to stay never go away from me
Stay forever
But now, now that you're gone
All I can do is pray for you
To be here beside me again

(Repeat *1)

And now I must move one
Trying to forget all the memories
Of you near me
But I can't let go of your love
That has taught me to hold on

(Repeat *twice)

Coda:
I want you to stay never go away from me

Stay forever
I want to stay but I have to go my way
Oohhhmmm

Five Things I Learned from Pandesal

Pandesal("salt bread") is a popular yeast-raised bread and a breakfast staple in the Philippines. You can buy it in most of the bakeries and sometimes in rolling stores(usually bicycles with horn and styrofoam box to keep the bread warm) during daybreak.

Pandesal fresh from oven
Best eaten when it's steaming hot together with a cup of coffee, pandesal can be eaten alone or with your favourite filling - cheese, butter, jam or sandwich spread. My personal favourite is butter as it perfectly melt and absorbed by the bread.

During the Chinese New Year holidays here in Singapore, our discipleship group got a chance to learn and experience first hand how to make pandesal which we are all craving for.

1. Patience pays off
Patience is the first and most important ingredient when making pandesal. You'll require a lot of it when waiting for the dough to rise. While you can already imagine the oven-baked pandesal and the lasting scent of warm yeast in your kitchen, wait some more because it's going to be worth it.

2. Bakers are hardworking and dedicated people
Baking breads can be one of the most diligent profession as it demands hard work to knead the bread until the consistency becomes fine enough to pop it in the oven. Not to mention they need to wake up early in the morning, just to make sure the work is done and the breads are baked into perfection. Respect to all bakers and bread makers in the world.

3. Tough times will transform you
Without the pressing, mixing, slicing and the oven-baking which all means inconvenience and hardship to the dough mixture there wouldn't be a soft, tasty and hot pandesal. Oftentimes we are captivated by the success and greatness of a person, forgetting the difficult process he went through to achieve it.

4. Don't just bake for the sake of baking
While you can instantly buy anything now in the market including breads, there will never be a pastry equally delightful compared to the ones you made yourself, because these are baked with love. And every time you learn a new recipe, you gather indescribable pleasure in sharing them with your friends (who  by the way gladly makes themselves available to taste your cooking, haha what are friends for).

5. Every good thing comes to an end
These freshly baked babies which we waited for one hour for the dough to rise, knead and mix like a professional masseur, sliced and wait for another 15 minutes to rise and baked for 15 minutes were all consumed in no time after serving in the table. But may this last statement not discourage you instead inspire you to appreciate whatever you have while you have them.

Woman

Found this encouraging write-up regarding God's conversation with an angel while He is creating a woman.

Kudos to the anonymous brilliant mind who weaved every word and emotion in this touching dialogue. Too bad I could not give the credit you well deserve as most of the posts I check does not provide the source for this article. But thank you for sharing your heart and respect to all women.

*****

When God created woman he was working late on the 6th day

An angel came by and said: “Why spend so much time on that one?”
And the Lord answered: “Have you seen all the specifications I have to meet to shape her ?"
“She must be washable, but not made of plastic, have more than 200 moving parts which all must be replaceable and she must function on all kinds of food, she must be able to embrace several kids at the same time, give a hug that can heal anything from a bruised knee to a broken hearth and she must do all this with only two hands”.

The angel was impressed.
“Just two hands....impossible!“
And this is the standard model?!
“Too much work for one day....wait until tomorrow and then complete her“.
“I will not”, said the Lord. “I am so close to complete this creation, which will be the favourite of my heart”.
“She cures herself when sick and she can work 18 hours a day”.

The angel came nearer and touched the woman.
“But you have made her so soft, Lord” “She is soft", said the Lord, “But I have also made her strong. You can’t imagine what she can endure and overcome.“

“Can she think?" the angel asked.
The Lord answered:
“Not only can she think, she can reason and negotiate."

The angel touched the womans cheek....
“Lord, it seems this creation is leaking! You have put too many burdens on her.”
“She is not leaking....it’s a tear” the Lord corrected the angel
“What’s it for?" asked the angel.

And the Lord said:
“Tears are her way of expressing grief, her doubts, her love, her loneliness, her suffering and her pride.”
This made a big impression on the angel; “Lord, you are genius. You thought of everything.
The woman is indeed marvellous!"

Indeed she is!
Woman has strengths that amazes man.
She can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens.
She holds happiness, love and opinions.
She smiles when feeling like screaming.
She sings when she feels like crying, cries when she is happy and laughs when she is afraid.
She fights for what she belives in.
Stand up against injustice.
She doesn’t take “no” for an answer, when she can see a better solution.
She gives herself so her family can thrive.
She takes her friend to the doctor if she is afraid.
Her love is unconditional.
She cries when her kids are victorious.
She is happy when her friends do well.
She is glad when she hears of a birth or a wedding.
Her heart is broken when a next of kin or friend dies.
But she finds the strength to get on with life.
She knows that a kiss and a hug can heal a broken heart.

There is only one thing wrong with her

We forget what she is worth.
